BACK ON THE PITCHThe Dallas Baptist Men's Soccer Team continues a five-game road trip at Rogers State University on Saturday, October 25. Kickoff is slated for around 7:30 PM following the Women's Soccer Team match-up.
Â
The road woes continue to occur as the Patriots wrap up the tail end of its second five-game stretch away from the home confines this campaign. Currently the team is 1-6 and has dropped its past five in a row as the visiting squad.
Â
DBU remains winless versus Heartland Conference foes, falling in the first four contests of the season. Last year, the Patriots finished 4-4-1 in league play.
Â
LATEST OUTINGA penalty kick was the difference in Monday's outcome earlier this week resulting in a 1-0 setback at St. Mary's University. DBU was outshot 15-4, but did manage an impressive 10 saves, three coming from junior
Chuck Schober.
Â
Fellow classmate
Alex Becerra collected half of the squad's shot attempts with two. Sophomore
Riley Alvey added one giving him six total on the road stint. Freshman
Walker Beasley also posted an attempt for the second-straight match. The consecutive contests streak are the first shots since the rookie boasted a career-high, four, at Colorado Christian on September 6.
Â
Despite not getting many scoring opportunities, DBU held onto a scoreless match throughout most of the afternoon. The affair was 0-0 at intermission.
Â
St. Mary's Josh Stevens produced the game-winner off a penalty kick netter at the 55:17 mark. This is the second time this season Dallas Baptist has been defeated due to PK shot.
Â
PLAYERS TO WATCHAlvey managed to gain a slight edge on the team leaderboard for goals and points with five and 11, respectively. Three of the forward's five goals have counted as the game-tier and eventually helped lead to a pair of DBU wins.
Â
Redshirt sophomore
Landon Lacy is up there second on the squad in goals and points with four and nine.
Â
Senior
David Balyeat holds the team-high in shots with 40, and has paced DBU in six of the last eight games with the team-high per match.
Â
Also sitting second on the team and notching 30 shots in the season is Robertson. He also is slotted in second with a pair of goals to match the same amount of assists, which ties for a team lead with Balyeat and junior
Leevi Schwartz.
Â
Earning the majority of time lately in the goalkeeper role is Schober, taking five-straight starts, which account for eight of his this campaign. The native of McKinney, Texas, has allowed 18 goals, but other than the Ouachita Baptist affair where five got by; the keeper has given up three or less, with two or less occurring in five of them.
Â
This includes his most impressive showing, holding No.18 Midwestern State to a netter in a 1-1 tie. The junior broke the 100 tally mark for shots faced on Monday, increasing the amount to 109 and has picked up 36 saves.
Â
SCOUTING THE HILLCATSRogers State snapped a three-game slide with a 7-5 win at Texas-Permian Basin on Monday. This scoring output is the second highest on the campaign, with RSU pounding 15 in a shutout over Hillsdale Free Will Baptist on October 8.
Â
The Hillcats are 2-3 in Heartland action and have gone 3-5 at home this year. They hold a slight 37-36 scoring edge over opponents.
Â
Austin Sexton paces the offense with six goals and is part of a quartet of players with double figures on points.
Â
The team-leader with 17 points is Danko Kenjic, and he ranks second just behind Sexton with five netters. Knotted in second on the squad with Kenjic is Caleb Pitts who also has 12 points. Rounding out the unit with 11 points is Jordan Permaul while contributing four goals.
Â
Behind Dlyan Beaird's three goals are another four Hillcats with a pair of shot attempts landing in the back of the net.
Â
Three goalies have seen action for RSU, but Cody Gammill has started 11 and played in 14 contests this season. He has allowed 20 goals while turning away 37 saves to go 5-6 on the year. Gammill is also responsible for the team's two shutouts on the year.
Â
Even with the high offensive fire power, the Hillcats have been blanked four times this year.
Â
SERIES HISTORYThe programs met on the pitch for the first time in history last season at Patriot Soccer Field. DBU won consecutive matches for the second time that year and amassed a team-high on the season, five goals, in a 5-2 final.
Â
Five individual players earned scoring results with sophomore
Brandon O'Donovan and Robertson matching a game-high, three points. The duo each scored once and added an assist.
Â
Sophomore
Seth Elliott, Alvey, and junior
Cameron Gilbert all gathered a goal in the route.
Â
The Patriots jumped out to a 3-0 edge through halftime, and never let RSU get closer than two goals in the second frame. Sophomore
Mason Stringer recorded 10 saves through 90 minutes of action in between the posts for DBU.
Â
UP NEXTDallas Baptist concludes the lengthy road trip on Monday, October 27 at Newman University. Kickoff begins around 2:30 PM.
