Women's Tennis Pushes Win Streak to Season-High

The No. 8 Dallas Baptist Women's Tennis Team won its fifth-straight match-up, besting Heartland Conference opponent, McMurry University on Saturday. The Patriots winning mark extends a season-best and improves the squad to 8-5 overall and 1-3 in conference action.

Slotting in the top seed was freshman, Cassandra Wennerstrom, and sophomore, Amanda Richter. The duo has been phenomenal during the successful span of the team, posting five consecutive wins together in the #1 doubles competition.

Also capturing a vicotry was senior duo, Leah Rutt, and Leah Smith. They knocked off Jessica Bentley and Bree Brosig from the Warhawks to garner a 2-0 lead early in the doubles round with an 8-2 decision.

The difference for the second day in a row came down to strong singles play in the first four rounds. DBU snatched all #1-4 slots with victories to secure the hot stretch.

Rutt opened with a big pair of 6-3, 6-1 finals to grab the #1 slot victory over McMurry's Lauren Renner. Wennerstrom won her sixth-straight individual's single in the #2 spot, with 6-2, 6-4 showings.

Richter recorded 6-3, 6-4 results over Chloe Patterson in the #3 slot for DBU. The lone round to go three sets was #4 match-up featuring Smith and Brosig from McMurry. The Patriot's senior opened with a 6-1 tally, before Brosig won to even the sets by a same score.

The native of Pasadena, Texas,  ensured an added point by collecting a 10-6 score in the final, deciding set.

Dallas Baptist is back on the courts March 25 versus Colorado Mesa University at 12 PM. The location is at DBU Kiest and opens a season-long, four-game home stand. The Patriots continue it with a contest on March 28 hosting Midwestern State at Arlington Tennis Center.
