Sneed's Gem Leads DBU to Series Win Over Bradley

Box Score

With a chance to win their first Missouri Valley Conference series of the season, Dallas Baptist (19-7, 2-0) cruised to an 8-2 victory over Bradley University on Saturday afternoon at Dozer Park in Peoria, Illinois.  Junior right-hander, Cy Sneed, earned his fourth win of the year, throwing eight innings, allowing just one earned run, while striking out five.

After allowing a run in the second and third innings, Sneed retired 12 batters in a row from the fourth through eighth innings, shutting out Bradley (15-7, 1-4) the rest of the way.  "My curve ball wasn't there early and I made the adjustment to rely more on my change-up, which ended up being a big pitch for me today," Sneed said following his eight-inning gem.

DBU got on the board early in the first following a two-out error by the Braves.  Austin Listi's double to right plated Daniel Salters and Drew Turbin to put the Patriots out in front 2-0.

Leading 2-1 in the third, DBU tacked on two more runs when David Martinelli ripped a double that scored Mike Wesolowski from first and Listi followed suit with another double to put the Patriots up 4-2.

In the fourth, Turbin cleared the right field wall with a two-run blast.  The homerun was the first of the season for the junior transfer from Yavapai College.

With a commanding 6-2 lead in the seventh, the Patriots added some insurance with two more runs.  The first run of the inning came on a throwing error by Bradley second baseman, Chris Godinez, that allowed Justin Wall to score from second.  DBU's final run of the day came on a ground ball to the right side that retired Tubin and allowed Duzenack to come home from third.

Josh Urban came on in relief of Sneed in the ninth and worked a scoreless frame to hand the Patriots the series victory over Bradley.  "It's great to get the series win to open conference," DBU Head Coach Dan Heefner said.  "Really, our approach is not focused on it being a conference win as much as it is each day going out and playing the game right and taking everything a day at a time.  We've been able to do that this weekend and that's a great sign."

DBU wraps-up the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm.  Sophomore, Cory Taylor, takes the hill versus Bradley in search of his third win of the year.
