The Dallas Baptist Women's Tennis Team moved to 3-4 on the campaign and 1-2 in Heartland Conference action following a 7-2 setback hosting University of Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday. It's the second-straight loss for the Patriots on back-to-back days against their league foes.
 
DBU was able to capture a victory in one of the three doubles matches from senior combo, Leah Rutt, and Leah Smith. The duo scored a win in the #2 slot with an 8-5 result. Sophomore, Amanda Richter, and freshman, Cassandra Wennerstrom, came up shy in an 8-4 defeat in the #1 doubles match-up.
 
UAFS's Abby White would battle Rutt in the #1 singles spot to a three-set victory. The Patriot's senior opened with a 6-3 win, but would be outdone 7-5 and 10-8 in the deciding sets.
 
Wennerstrom claimed the other DBU victory on the day with a win in the #3 singles slot. The native of Vasteras, Sweden, defeated Amy Belanger 7-6 (7-4), 7-5. Smith was defeated in a close match-up by a final tally of 6-4, 6-3 to Masa Podunavac.
 
"This weekend was obviously both disappointing and frustrating for our program," Head Coach Sarah Gray stated. "I am proud of the way our team played today against UAFS compared to yesterday with St. Mary's.  We competed better and started off stronger compared to a slow start and working our way into the match."

Coach Gray specified, "On the girl's side, I'm proud of Cassandra Wennerstrom for closing out a solid win at #3 and also to seniors Leah Smith and Leah Rutt for their grit, determination and focus in doubles that is absolutely stellar."
 
Dallas Baptist returns to the courts March 11 for a tournament in Phoenix, Arizona. The Lady Patriots play a pair of contests on Tuesday versus University of the Southwest at 9:15 AM and then Dixie State University at 3 PM. The Women's Team wraps-up the week on March 12 against Southwestern Minnesota State at 8 AM.
