The Dallas Baptist Women's Tennis Team fell in a match-up Tuesday featuring a pair of top ten ranked programs in the regional polls. The Lady Patriots (10-8) entered No.8 this week, but couldn't top No.4 Cameron University (13-3) in the affair. DBU has now dropped three of its last four, after winning a season-best six in a heading into the previous weekend.
All three rounds in the doubles competition were decided by four points or less. The Lady Patriots managed only one victory in those sets, coming from seniors,
Leah Rutt and
Leah Smith, in the #2 line. Freshman,
Meredith Robinson, and junior,
Lyvia Gomes, also had a close set in the #3 slot, falling to CU's duo 8-5.
Rutt swept her match-ups today and was the lone perfect effort for DBU, as she battled past Angle Torres in the #1 line with a pair of 7-6 (7-5) showings. The Aggies claimed the rest of the rounds to secure a win on the match.
Smith fell in the #4 slot for the road squad, posting a narrow, 6-4, deficit, before a 6-2 result in the next set completed the sweep. Gomes, the native from Itaperura, Rio de Janiero, demonstrated a fantastic round of three sets.
She edged Magdalena Kovlnic in the opener, 7-5, before a 6-3 setback would bring on the deciding turn. A 10-4 result concluded the #6-seeded round, and would evenutally help lift CU on the day.
Dallas Baptist is back in action on April 4 at Bethel College for a 3 PM start time. The squad remains in North Newton, Kansas, for a 10 AM match-up against Central Christian the next day, April 5.
