The Dallas Baptist Women's Tennis Team won 7-2 in non-conference action at Bethel College on Friday afternoon. The victory is DBU's (11-8) second in a row, while the Threshers (3-2) suffered a setback.
The Lady Patriots opened the affair falling in two of three rounds in the doubles competition. Notching the lone triumph was senior duo,
Leah Rutt, and
Leah Smith, with an 8-5 decision over BC's Madelyn Weaver and Allie Hipp.
In Singles action, the visiting squad had more luck sweeping all six match-ups en route to a 7-2 final. Working in the #1 slot, Rutt won her fourth outing of the week topping Breanna Honer in three sets. The native of Strasburg, Pennslyvania, fell in the opener 6-1 before tabbing a win of her own by the same score to even the series. Her 10-1 clinched the set over the BC individual opponent.
Freshman,
Cassandra Wennerstrom, and Smith posted shutouts in the #2 and #4 spots, respectively. Sophomore,
Amanda Richter, rallied back from a narrow defeat in the first set, to to claim 6-3, 10-2 finals in the #3 line. Junior,
Lyvia Gomes, also edged out Ashley Suhr in the #5 slot with a 7-6 (7-3) win in the second set, and slid into the win column with a 10-8 showing in the final set.
Dallas Baptist remains in North Newton, Kansas, tomorrow for a 10 AM tennis match versus Central Christian College.
