The Dallas Baptist Women's Tennis Team dropped a 5-2 match to St. Edward's at the Heartland Conference Tournament on Friday. In a tournament that was scheduled to be played at the Kiest Tennis Center, inclement weather forced the tourney to be relocated to the SMU indoor tennis facility in Dallas.Â
DBU fell behind by dropping all three doubles matches. The Lady Patriots' No. 1 team of
Natalie Gennissen and
Amanda Richter fell 8-4 to St. Edward's, Brooke Hughes and Sasha Khadzhyan, while the No. 2 team of
Cassandra Wennerstrom and
Liz Slaughter dropped a 9-8 decision to Ivana Zecevic and Francesca Chaher. DBU's
Bianca Tijerina and Maria Fernandez fell in the No. 3 spot to Rafaela Haegele and Marissa Williams, 8-6.
In singles action, the lone victories for the Lady Patriots came from Slaughter and Tijerina. Slaughter knocked off Summer Biggs, 6-1, 6-2; while Tijerina won over Marissa Williams 6-4, 7-5.
With the loss, DBU falls in the semifinals of the Heartland Conference Tournament, while St. Edward's advances to tomorrow's championship match.
