THE LEAD 
In the opening round of the Heartland Conference Tennis Championships, the DBU Women's Tennis were swept by the top seeded St. Mary's Rattlers, 5-0.

The Lady Patriots entered the postseason tournament the no. 4 seed.

StMU jumped out to an early lead against the Lady Patriots, sweeping all three lines of doubles play.  

Ana Marija Banic and Maria Fernandez de Camilo with a spirited effort, were edged in line one, 8-6. 

With the tournament being a first to clinch format, the Rattlers needed only two more wins to advance to the Heartland Conference Championship match,

Liz Slaughter was defeated in line two by a score of 6-0, 6-2 and Bianca Tijerina fell in line six 6-1, 6-1.
