Lady Patriots Fall in Conference Semifinal Round

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Lady Patriots fell to St. Mary's 4-0 in the Heartland Conference Championship semifinal round Friday afternoon in Arlington, Texas. With the loss, DBU finishes 17-9 on the season, their second best record since the 2013-14 season.

The Lady Patriots lost the doubles match closely at lines two and three, while Taylor Leslie and Adriana Carpenter came close only falling 7-5 against Isabelle Bergman and Rani Goodland. Devon Austin-Canning fought hard in her match against Ashley Penshorn in singles play, falling 7-5 in the first set. Kate Daugherty was ahead in her match after a 7-6 set one victory, but did not finish her match due to St. Mary's clinching.

St. Mary's and St. Edward's compete starting at 9:00 a.m. in Arlington to determine the 2019 Heartland Conference Champion.

COACH MORGAN ON THE WOMEN'S EFFORTS
"Losses are never easy, but considering the fact that we didn't qualify for conference last year, this was a huge step for us. This experience is going to serve us well in the future. St. Mary's played an outstanding match and are a top tier Division II program in the country for many years, so we had a tough draw. Our ladies fought until the very end and I am super proud of their efforts. They had a great year and deserve to hold their heads high."
