Lady Patriots Complete Road Trip to Florida With Clean Sweep

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Tennis team improved to 14-2 on the season after sweeping all three matches during their recent trip to Florida. On Tuesday, DBU defeated a St. Thomas Aquinas team ranked No. 30 in the nation by a score of 4-3. The Patriots followed their upset win with a 4-3 victory over Slippery Rock before closing out their three-game road trip with a 4-0 shutout of Eckerd College on Thursday.

In the victory over St. Thomas Aquinas, the Lady Patriots seized all three doubles matches with Angela Charles-Alfred and Jenna Payne teaming up to win at the line 1 position while Caroline Hudson and Madison Stafford picked up a point at line 2 and Isabella Arana Rios and Sofia Teran won, 6-1, at line 3. The doubles point would prove to be pivotal after DBU and St. Thomas Aquinas split the six singles matches with each team claiming three points.

On Thursday against Slippery Rock, the Lady Patriots had to rely on four wins in singles play after dropping the doubles point. DBU's lone win in doubles came from the team of Charles-Alfred and Payne who notched their second straight victory of the week at the line 1 spot. In singles, the Lady Patriots earned four crucial points from Charles-Alfred, Arana Rios, Stafford, and Teran.

DBU closed out the week with a dominant 4-0 win over Eckerd College on Thursday. For the second time in their trip to Florida, the Lady Patriots won all three doubles matches. Charles-Alfred would close out a week in which she went 3-0 at line 1 singles with a win in straight sets. Leonie Schondelmaier notched a victory at the line 2 spot, while Stafford earned a point after her win at the line 3 position.

DBU HEAD COACH WADE MORGAN ON A STRONG WEEK IN FLORIDA
"We've played several really close matches lately and the girls are responding nicely to lots of different situations in terms of adversity. They have stepped up in the clutch moments and it's very nice to see. What we can do now is take what we've learned and keep moving forward and get ready for our Lone Star Conference matches coming up."
