THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Volleyball team swept the Patriots of UT Tyler in a non-conference affair to begin their trip to Canyon, Texas, for the Lone Star Conference Tournament Preview. DBU is now even in the all-time series with UT Tyler, 5-5.
Â
Momentum swung back and forth constantly in a tight first set. Both squads fought to score consecutive points as neither strung together more than three at a time. The frame was played to a deuce, where the tug of war finally ended when DBU registered won four of the last five rallies. In total, there were 15 ties and five lead changes.
Â
The two foes combined to hit below .100 in a scrappy second game. DBU took an early 9-6 advantage to force a UTT timeout. The Patriots out of East Texas climbed back into the match, prompting DBU head coach
Jordan Fish to call a timeout of her own with her team up 16-14. DBU found its rhythm in an immediate 5-0 run that put the set out of reach of UTT.
Â
The third frame started much like the second as like its predecessor. The Dallas-based Lady Patriots jumped to an early 9-4 lead and never looked back.
Delaney Fuller spearheaded the Dallas-based Lady Patriots with her second eight-kill set of the afternoon, and DBU completed the sweep without trailing for the match's last 84 rallies.
