THE RUNDOWN
No. 11 DBU earned a 6-0 victory over the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs on Saturday. Their third consecutive victory wasn't the only thing being celebrated as it was Senior Day at Patriot Soccer field. Seniors Taylor Tufts and Sophia Schrock capped off the day by combining for three goals. Angelina Olmos contributed two goals and Anne Louthan made one.
The Patriots wasted no time at the start of this match, finding their first goal in the 5th minute. McKenna Vela dribbled the ball down the left side, making a last-minute pass inside the box to Angelia Olmos, whose right-footed shot found the back of the net. Just five minutes later, DBU was back on the attack when Taylor Tufts' corner kick deflected off the head of Parker Coe, bounced once, and was kicked into the net by Anne Louthan for her second goal this season.
In the 25th minute, Angelina Olmos drew a foul and Taylor Tufts took the free kick at the top of the box. Her left-footed shot fell into the top left corner of the goal to give DBU a 3-0 lead. At this point in the game, head coach Marcus Wood began to dip into his reserves, sending several subs onto the pitch. One of these subs, Elise Borders, took a free kick in the 35th minute and connected with senior Sophia Schrock, who headed the ball into the net for DBU's fourth goal. In the final 10 minutes of the first half, West Texas had two aggressive shots inside the box, both of which were saved by senior goalkeeper Breanna Bowen.
DBU came into the second half with a 4-0 lead and had no intentions of slowing down their offensive press. In the 54th minute, Angelina Olmos took a shot from the top of the box, making it the fifth ball to get past West Texas senior goalkeeper Reagan Heelan. Ten minutes later, the Patriots scored again after McKenna Vela made a pass into a sea of black jerseys to find Tufts ready to take the shot. This was Tufts' second goal of the match. The final 25 minutes were marked by DBU's four corner-kick chances. The Patriots finished their 11th match of the season with a 6-0 win.
