THE RUNDOWN
The Lady Patriots (17-8, 11-4) fall to the Angelo State Rambelles (24-2, 14-1) in three sets in San Angelo Friday night. Following a marathon first frame, the Rambelles outscored DBU 50-37 en route to a three-set victory (28-30, 18-25, 19-25). The Lady Patriots struggled to pump volume into a third scoring option to increase the value of outside hitters Delaney Fuller and Karly Wells, who totaled 71% of DBU's kills.
Despite the three-set outcome, setter Aryn Walton notched 30+ assists for the fourth consecutive contest. Her 34 assists tonight is the fourth most she's posted in any three-set game in the 2024 campaign. Delaney Fuller and Karly Wells combined to produce 30 total kills, while nobody else had higher than four.Â
Shaylee Shore's four-kill performance was done on seven attempts, which was good for a team-leading .571 Hit%. The last time Shore was kept under five kills was almost a month ago against West Texas A&M, another contest where the Lady Patriots suffered a sweep. Shore emerged as a legitimate offensive threat early this season during the Colorado Premier Challenge and has been an important part of the DBU attack.
As the postseason creeps forward, every win becomes more and more valuable to determine seeding in the Lone Star Conference Tournament. With a win against Lubbock Christian tomorrow, the Lady Patriots will remain fifth in the LSC, with a loss, DBU will slide to sixth to end the regular-season.
