DBU Avenges Loss, Sweeps Texas Woman’s in First Round of LSC Tournament

THE RUNDOWN

The five-seed DBU Lady Patriots sweep four-seed Texas Woman's University in the first round of the Lone Star Conference tournament. The Lady Pats had vengeance on their mind following a five-set loss to TWU a few weeks ago. DBU rode an efficient offense and key momentous blocks to a dominant three-set win.

Outside of a rocky first set, the Lady Pats played one of their cleanest games of the entire season this evening. The DBU attack saw efficient production from each of its hitters tonight. Of all players with at least five attack attempts, Shaylee Shore's .667 hitting percentage led the way as she put down eight of her 12 swings. Her middle counterpart Lindsey Otero posted a .556 hitting percentage to go along with five combined total blocks between the two middles.

The recently announced two-time LSC Player of the Year Delaney Fuller led the group in kills with her 14. Following closely behind was Karly Wells with 11. Wells' seven kills in the first set paved the way for an early DBU comeback crucial to a momentum swing that the Lady Pats did not relinquish. Freshman Reagan Fifer subbed in the third and final set and recorded three kills on three attempts for a perfect hitting percentage, slapping a bow on an outstanding night for the DBU attack.

Setter Aryn Walton assisted on 38 of DBU's 44 kills, proving that when the Lady Patriots can slow rallies down and run their offense how they want to, it'll be tough sledding for any group trying to overcome them. DBU Volleyball will seek another round of vengeance tomorrow night against a WTAMU group that has gotten the best of the Lady Pats twice this year.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Middles Shaylee Shore and Lindsey Otero didn't commit a single attack error on 21 combined attempts.

Delaney Fuller notched a team-leading three service aces.

Aryn Walton's 38 assists is the second-highest total she's posted in a three-set match (42 vs. Sul-Ross State).
