THE RUNDOWN
In a Friday night affair that eclipsed just over an hour of duration, the DBU Lady Patriots (17-7, 11-3) swept Sul Ross State (2-17, 2-11) on the road in three very quick sets (25-18, 25-11, 25-17). Anchored by the Lone Star Conference's leading attacker Delaney Fuller, the Lady Patriot offense carried a prominent .351 Hit% en route to their three-set victory. Tonight also featured the return of Defensive Specialist Jenna McMichael, after she missed several contests due to an injury.Â
Outside hitters Fuller and Karly Wells combined for 67 total attack attempts in three sets with Fuller uncharacteristically carrying most of the weight. Fuller had 23 more attack attempts than Wells, a number that is usually much smaller. Setter Aryn Walton notched 42 assists in tonight's sweep, well ahead of her season pace of 10.4 assists per set. Aryn Walton's assist total tonight is the highest number she's posted in a three-set match all season.
Redshirt freshman Reagan Fifer received the highest volume she's seen all season, as the lefty totaled seven attack attempts and converted on four, from her opposite side position. Middle Shaylee Shore eclipsed double-digits in kills tonight, converting on ten of her 16 attempts, which was good for a team-leading .625 Hit%.Â
The Lady Patriots notched five service aces in tonight's game despite six service errors. Jenna McMichael was able to post an ace in her return to action, but it was Daylee Doggett who led the way from the baseline this evening. Doggett led the group with three aces and was the only Lady Patriot to toe the baseline and not commit a service error.Â
