Lady Patriots Kick Off Conference Play with Milestone Victory and Tough Setback

THE RUNDOWN
The Dallas Baptist University Lady Patriots opened conference play this weekend with a historic victory over Angelo State, securing a 4-3 win on Friday in San Angelo, Texas. This marked the first-ever win for DBU over Angelo State in program history, but the excitement was tempered by a tough 3-4 loss to Texas A&M Kingsville on Saturday in Kingsville, Texas. It was an up-and-down weekend for the Lady Patriots, with several three-set battles in singles across both matches. The grueling schedule, with a five-hour match on Friday followed by a long drive and then a four-hour contest on Saturday, proved to be a challenge for the team. While the win over Angelo State was a milestone, the immediate loss to Kingsville reminded the team that there's still much to improve.

Despite the setbacks, there were plenty of positives. Emily Buchanan, Madalyn Smelley, and Andrea Delgado were outstanding in singles, going undefeated throughout the weekend and providing a solid foundation for the team. The doubles performances were a bit more inconsistent, but the competition was tough, and the Lady Patriots are learning that the conference is as competitive as ever. There's definitely a lot to improve on, but the team knows they have the talent to compete at a high level..

DBU HEAD COACH WADE MORGAN ON THE TEAM PERFORMANCE
"It was a good weekend of competition. We know it's going to be tough matches from here on out and we just have to be ready, which we will be."
