Buchanan and Delgado Shine as #38 Lady Patriots Go 1-1 in Competitive Weekend Matchups

THE RUNDOWN
The Lady Patriots women's tennis team showed both resilience and determination in a competitive weekend of matches, earning a hard-fought 4-3 victory over defending champion Cameron University on Thursday before falling 2-5 to a strong #3 Midwestern State team on Friday. Despite the split results, the team demonstrated consistent effort and individual excellence, particularly in singles play.

Thursday's match against Cameron was a standout performance for the Lady Patriots, particularly in doubles. The team swept all three doubles courts to secure the first point of the match. At line one, Madalyn Smelley and Isabella Arana-Rios edged out their opponents in a tight 7-5 win. Meanwhile, Emily Buchanan and Jenna Payne were dominant at line two with a 6-2 victory, and Isabella Quintero and Andrea Delgado controlled play at line three, winning 6-1. The momentum from doubles carried into singles, where Arana-Rios (line 4), Buchanan (line 5), and Delgado (line 6) each earned critical wins to clinch the match. The victory was especially significant given that Cameron entered the match as the defending champions on the women's side.

On Friday, the Lady Patriots faced Midwestern State in another tightly contested match but ultimately fell 2-5. Although the team came up short overall, both Emily Buchanan and Andrea Delgado continued their strong form, each earning another singles victory on lines five and six, respectively. Their performances capped off undefeated weekends in singles play, underscoring their consistency and competitive edge. Buchanan remains undefeated in singles for the season, while Delgado has suffered only one loss.

Though the weekend ended with a loss, the Lady Patriots can take pride in their performances against two tough opponents. The win over Cameron highlighted the team's potential, and continued standout efforts from Buchanan and Delgado provide a solid foundation for the remainder of the season. As the team continues to grow and improve, this weekend served as a testament to their competitiveness and determination on the court.
