Lady Patriots Roll Into LSC Semifinals with Statement Win Over No. 20 Lubbock Christian

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Tennis team continued their postseason momentum with a commanding 4-0 victory over No. 3 seed and nationally ranked #20 Lubbock Christian, punching their ticket to the Lone Star Conference Semifinals.

The Lady Patriots set the tone early by sweeping doubles play. The duo of Madalyn Smelley and Isabella Arana-Rios secured a 6-3 win at line one, while Jenna Payne and Emily Buchanan were dominant at line two, cruising to a 6-0 victory to clinch the doubles point. DBU's dominance carried into singles, where they quickly sealed the match with three straight-set wins. At line one, Katherine Robinson was flawless in a 6-4, 6-3 win. Isabella Arana-Rios followed at line four with another efficient 6-1, 6-3 performance. Emily Buchanan continued her perfect season at line five with a gritty 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 comeback to clinch the fourth and final point for the Patriots.

The remaining matches went unfinished once DBU reached the clinch point, but the Lady Patriots had control across the board, showcasing their depth and determination. With the win, DBU advances to the Lone Star Conference Semifinals, riding a wave of momentum, highlighted by strong team chemistry, resilience, and standout individual seasons, including Buchanan's undefeated singles run and recent Player of the Year honors.

"Today was a total team effort; the girls had great energy in doubles, and it carried over into singles. I'm so proud of the fight we showed, but we still have work to do, and our opponent tomorrow is very tough. We have to lock in.

The Lady Patriots advance to the Lone Star Conference Semifinals and will face No. 3 seed and nationally ranked No. 6 Midwestern State on Thursday, May 2, at 1 p.m. in Arlington, Texas.
