Volleyball Defeats East Central Behind Strong Performances From Newcomers

THE RUNDOWN

The Lady Patriots (2-0) took down the East Central Tigers (0-2) Friday night in a three-set thriller at The Burg Center. After comfortably winning the opening frame, the Tigers showed fight and kept sets two and three close, even forcing deuce play in the third (25-18, 25-23, 29-27). DBU played six sets of volleyball today and won all of them.

Lauren Witte and Karly Wells shared the game lead in kills with 11 each, in a day where Witte showed her value on both sides of the net. The freshman from Fulshear totaled 19 kills and 19 digs across two games.

Middle Madison Clark was one of the new faces who really showed out today, amassing 11 kills and four blocks. Some of the other fresh faces who made an impact are Aizlyn Dewberry (8 kills across two games), Sydney Payne (39 assists, 11 digs), and Paityn Winters (30 assists, 17 digs).

Freshman libero Blue Anderson has shown flashes of elite defensive play, and she will continue to be a player to watch on the back line. Anderson totaled 17 digs in both contests today.

- The Lady Patriots tied their 2024 season-high total in team aces, with 13. 

- Sydney Payne led the way on the baseline with a career-high six aces.

- Lauren Witte, on top of sharing the game lead in kills, notched three aces and nine digs in the game against East Central.
