Lady Patriot Tennis Drops Third Match in a Row

The Dallas Baptist Lady Patriot Tennis Team moved to 12-8 this past week after dropping two matches against Cameron, 4-5, and Heartland Conference rival St. Edward's University, 3-6. After starting off the season with nine consecutive wins, the Lady Patriots have lost three of their last five matches including a 3-5 loss to East Central University on April 1, but are still ranked 39th in the country.

Against the 26th nationally ranked Hilltoppers from St. Edward's University, Sophomore Hannah Innes picked up the lone singles victory for the Lady Patriots with her win (6-4, 4-6, (12-10)) at the number three spot. The doubles team of Junior Natalie Holmes and Sophomore Hannah Innes, currently the ninth ranked duo in the region, continued their stellar play with an 8-6 victory, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Patriots fell 6-3 to the Hilltoppers.

On April 13, the Lady Patriots faced the 33rd ranked Aggies from Cameron University. Innes defeated her opponent in singles play 6-3 and 6-2, while Sophomore Lexi Yeado won 6-3, 7-5. After only two singles victories, the Lady Patriots needed to sweep the Aggies in doubles play. Junior Lisa Olian and Senior Jeanelle Stines and Sophomores Laura Atkins and Yeado each picked up two needed victories for DBU, but a tough loss by Holmes and Innes (8-6) sealed the victory for the Aggies, 5-4.

The Lady Patriots will return to action on Friday, April 23, as they host the Heartland Conference Tennis Championship. All games will be played at the Kiest Tennis Center in Dallas.
