Patriots Secure 32nd Consecutive Winning Season with 17-1 Victory

The DBU Patriot Baseball team improved to 28-23 on the season with a 17-1 victory on Saturday afternoon against the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. With the win, the Patriots secure their 32nd consecutive winning season.

Freshman Aaron Gilbreath picked up the win for the Patriots, pitching seven innings, giving up only four hits, allowing one run, and striking out three. Leading the Patriots offense on the day was Ryan Enos, who went 3-4 with three runs scored.

The Patriots got the bats goings in the bottom of the first inning as Junior Jason Krizan and Senior Ryan Enos got back to back to walks to bring up Sophomore Ryan Behmanesh who hit a double to right field, scoring Krizan. Travis Meiners would later come up with two outs and lay a bunt down the third base line to score Enos, giving the Patriots an early 2-0 lead.

The Golden Lions would respond quickly in the top of the second inning with a solo homerun by shortstop Hinton Huckabee to make the score 2-1.

DBU would add seven runs to their lead in the bottom of the third inning. Ryan Enos started things off with a single through the right side and would later steal second. Ryan Behmanesh would then hit a single to centerfield that would advance Enos to third base. With runners on the corners, Freshman Duncan McAlpine stepped up and hit a double to right field scoring Enos. Behmanesh would score on a passed ball and Freshman Austin Elkins would drive in McAlpine with a double to right field. Elkins would come around to score on a single by Junior Chris Haney. After Senior Austin Knight walked to put two runners on base, Jason Krizan blasted a three-run homerun to centerfield to make the score 9-1.

The Patriots would continue their offensive attack in the bottom of the fifth inning, putting up three more runs including Duncan McAlpine's first triple of the season to bring around Austin Knight and Ryan Enos to make the score 13-1.

The Patriots would tack on runs in the sixth and seventh innings to make the score 17-1.

The Patriots resume action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Waco to take on the Baylor Bears. First pitch is slated for 6:30.
