The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team surrendered a 5-0 lead against Texas Tech on Tuesday evening, falling to the Red Raiders, 7-6. Tech scored five runs in the seventh and two in the ninth to pick up their 15th win of the season while the Patriots drop to 13-8.
Senior
Jared Stafford pitched six and a third innings for DBU, giving up five runs on six hits, and striking out six. However, it was Senior
Chris Haney who was dealt the loss after giving up two runs on two hits in the ninth.
DBU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second after a sacrifice fly from Junior
Kenny Hatcher scored Junior
Joel Hutter. Hutter had reached on a single earlier in the inning.
A leadoff triple by Junior
Landon Anderson led to the Patriots' next run in the bottom half of the third. With Anderson on third, Senior
Tyler Robbins flied out to centerfield, earning him his 12th RBI of the season, and making it a 2-0 advantage for the Patriots.
Freshman
Patrick Hicks made it a 3-0 lead for DBU in the fourth when his single to right field scored Hutter who had reached on a leadoff double. The single by Hicks' marks his first career hit and resulted in his first career RBI.
Following three consecutive one-run innings, DBU tacked on two in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead. After a pair of leadoff walks, Senior
Jason Krizan drove in his team-leading 21st RBI of the season with a single, chasing the Raiders' Duke von Schamann from the mound. Behmanesh extended the inning for DBU with his very next at bat, as he delivered a sacrifice fly to score the Patriots' fifth run of the night.
With only two hits through the first six innings, the Red Raiders strung together five hits in the top of the seventh, evening the game at 5-5.
DBU recaptured the lead temporarily in the bottom of the eighth, thanks to a RBI single from Anderson that scored Sophomore
Duncan McAlpine and made it 6-5.
The lead didn't last long for the Patriots, however, as Tech scored two final runs in the top of the ninth to complete their comeback. A RBI double scored the first run of the inning for the Red Raiders and put the go ahead run in scoring position. Kelby Tomlinson then singled up the middle to score the final run of the game, giving Texas Tech the 7-6 win.
Up next for the Patriots is a three-game road stand against Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. The first game of the series is scheduled for March 24 at 3:00 p.m.
