Ndiaye's Career Night Lifts Patriots on Homecoming

Box Score

A career performance by senior Remy Ndiaye and major second half run by the Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team was plenty to defeat Mid-America Christian 90-75 on Homecoming night at the Burg Center. The victory ends a two-game slide for DBU (2-3) and is also marks consecutive wins at the friendly confines in Dallas.

Several excellent nights occurred for the Patriots, led by Ndiaye posting personal bests in scoring 26 points, rebounds with 13, and his first career double-double. It was also the first time a Patriot notched the feat on the campaign.

Five of six DBU players that found the scoring column in the box score also recorded double-figures in points. This is the second time the Patriots have accomplished this, with the previous time coming in a 93-74 win over Dallas Christian.

Both squads shot on fire in the first half, with MACU holding the edge 66-percent to the Patriots 56-percent. The Evangels took advantage of a sharp three-point field goal range 56-percent (5-9) to add to that incredible offensive rate.

After falling behind on the first bucket, redshirt freshman Jonathan Perry got DBU on the board with a three-pointer making it 3-2. Momentum would sway back and forth through most of the half, with neither team able to gain more than two possession difference. The Patriots held the largest lead of the frame by five, while MACU would lead by no more than four in the early portion.

Sophomore Jason Gentry would cut into that margin with a three-pointer to cut the deficit 9-8, and a Perry layup would put DBU back in front 11-9. The Patriots pushed their first biggest advantage 24-20, but a trey by Angelo Lewis would narrow the deficit again. He posted a team-high 14 points in the first half.

Ndiaye managed to accomplish his personal best in the first half with 15 points, including a 2-for-3 performance from downtown.

At halftime, both teams were locked in a 46-46 tie, following a Josh Minner offensive rebound layup as time expired.

It was an entirely different contest in the second half, as the Patriots opened a 9-1 run to grab momentum. Following a pair of Josh Smith free throws, Dallas Baptist went off on an 11-0 spurt, including a trio of three-pointers.

With 11:55 minutes remaining, a 24-3 stretch in favor of DBU, was a large determining difference of the contest. The Evangels did make an 11-4 push to cut the deficit 74-61 with 7:44 still to play in the ballgame.

However, the Patriots thwarted any plans of a comeback by rattling off eight unanswered points. DBU's largest lead of the contest was 23 with a 90-67 edge in the final 2:15 minutes of the blowout.

The Patriots finished 52-percent shooting from the field, including a season-high 51-percentage rate behind the three-point arc.

MACU went cold in the second half, not scoring a field goal until Lewis knocked down a shot at the 10:03 mark.  The Evangels did win the battle on the boards 33-29, and forced 13 turnovers compared to the Patriot's 11.

Behind Ndiaye's historic evening, a trio of Patriots clinched season best outings. Redshirt freshman Myles Johnson totaled 17 points, while senior Corey Carden contributed 15. Perry recorded double-figures in the scoring column for his fifth straight contest with 13, and Gentry added 12 in the route.

Lewis paced the Evangel's offense with a team-high 21 points, largely due to his first half. Minner was the other player from MACU to tally double-digits in scoring with 13.

Dallas Baptist is back in action for a non-conference game at the Burg Center on November 26 at 7 PM versus Southeastern Oklahoma State.
