Volleyall Concludes Road Trip with Loss at LCU

The Dallas Baptist University Lady Patriot Volleyball Team concluded a seven-match road trip, Saturday, dropping a 3-1 contest at Lubbock Christian University. DBU falls to 4-10 overall, 2-3 in Heartland Conference play. The Lady Chaps now stand at 6-7, 4-2 in league play.

The Lady Patriots now look forward to a single match at The Burg Center on the DBU campus, Thursday at 7 p.m., hosting St. Edward's University for another Heartland matchup.

In Saturday's match, Lubbock Christian cruised through the first set, leading the entire way en route to a 25-17 win. The second set played more tightly, with the biggest lead reaching 15-10 in favor of the Lady Chaps. DBU climbed back and forced extra play, but eventually dropped a 26-24 decision to trail the match, 2-0.

The Lady Patriots controlled the entire third set, leading the whole way after a tie at one, eventually winning 25-19 and drawing within one set at 2-1. The fourth set took a similar path as the second, as the two clubs played back-and-forth, before LCU pulled away late to take the 25-21 win and a 3-1 match victory.

"We have talented players, but they haven't figured out how to play as a team yet," said DBU Head Coach Cathy Kokel. "I am hoping we can do better on Thursday."

Tiara Iwegbu continued to lead the DBU club offensively, turning in 18 kills, her fourth straight match with double-digit kills. Erika Papadeas also turned in a solid hitting performance with 11 kills. Tyler Bradsher led the club with 23 assists, with Kaycie Bird adding 19.

On the defensive end, Cameron Hartson earned a match-high 28 digs, with Tadam Mergener adding 11 and Bird earning 10. Iwegbu also added four blocks.

For Lubbock Christian, three players gave strong contributions offensively, led by 23 kills from Kacey Deterding. Tyler Webster added 15 kills, followed by 13 from Abby White. Erin Fisher dished off 56 assists, a match-high.

Webster and Deterding each completed a double-double with 17 and 11 digs, respectively, two of five players with double-digit digs.
