THE RUNDOWN
DBU (18-3, 9-1) rolled past Midwestern State (4-17, 2-7) in straight sets at The Burg on Friday night. The sweep is the Lady Patriots' fourth in their last five matches.
Â
Set one was possibly the closest set in which DBU has competed all year. Both teams failed to take full control in a frame with 15 ties and 8 lead changes. Neither squad led by more than two points, but three Lady Patriot blocks proved to be the difference maker.Â
Â
DBU took the steering wheel in the second. After a 4-4 tie, the Lady Patriots' offense took off. A 6-1 run forced a Mustangs timeout, but the stoppage in play proved to be futile. DBU hit .500 in the set while 7 of its players slammed at least one kill as part a dominant frame by the Lady Patriots.
Â
Midwestern State had no answer for the DBU offense. The Lady Patriots had a .474 hitting percentage in the final set, and
Aryn Walton and
Kenzie McNeill contributed 2 aces each en route to the DBU win.
Â
