THE RUNDOWN
The Lady Patriots (16-3, 7-1) defeated the Dustdevils of Texas A&M International (14-5, 5-1), 3-0, in Dallas on Saturday. DBU had one of its most dominating performances of the year, recording 46 kills while committing only 9 attack errors.
Â
TAMIU held a narrow lead to start the match, 14-9. Following a
Jordan Fish timeout, the Lady Patriots forced the Dustdevils to call a timeout of their own by winning eight of the next nine rallies. After the stoppage, DBU kept the momentum extending their run to a cumulative 16-2 to finish the set.
Â
The Lady Patriots maintained control in the second, going up 14-7. TAMIU challenged with a 6-1 stretch to bring the game within 2 points. That margin proved to be the smallest for the remainder of the set, and DBU took set two.
Â
DBU kept a small advantage for the first act of set three. Up 13-11, the Lady Patriots called a timeout to halt a 4-0 run by the Dustdevils. From there, DBU put the pedal to the metal, scoring 12 of the next 15 points to close the match. Outside hitter
AJ Koele was electric in the frame, registering 10 kills on 11 attempts.
