The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team picked up their second consecutive win as they defeated the 25th ranked Owls from Rice University on Tuesday evening. The 7-6 win moves the Patriots to 17-12, as they prepare for a three game road swing against the University of Evansville later this week.
Senior
Ryan Millard picked up his second win of the season after going five innings, and allowing only three earned runs on four hits. Junior
Jared Stafford earned his third save of the year, limiting the Owl batters to four hits and striking out three over four innings.
DBU opened up the game drawing three straight walks by Senior
Austin Knight and Juniors
Tyler Robbins and
Jason Krizan to load the bases. Rice pitcher Matt Reckling then walked in the Patriots' first run after hitting DBU Senior
Ryan Enos, making it 1-0. With the bases still loaded, Sophomore
Ryan Behmanesh stepped to the plate and dropped a grand slam homerun over the left field wall to give the Patriots an early 5-0 lead.
After a scoreless second for both teams, the Patriots tacked on two more runs in the top of the third off the bat of Junior
Chris Haney. After a leadoff double by Behmanesh and a walk by Senior
Travis Meiners, Haney connected on a two RBI double, giving the Patriots a 7-1 lead.
The Owls only managed two more runs off Millard, scoring on a single in the third and a RBI groundout in the fifth inning.
Stafford entered the game in the sixth and retired the first three batters he faced. The Owls strung together four hits against the Patriot relief pitcher, but only managed to score three runs in the final three innings, leaving the Patriots with the narrow 7-6 victory.
The Patriots will travel to Evansville, Indiana tomorrow as they prepare for the three game series against the Purple Aces starting on Thursday. The first pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
